42,000 preventable deaths| Are you practicing road safety?

We all most likely know of someone who has experienced the impacts of a car crash. Whether it’s our family, friends, or community members. Car crashes often take a toll on all of us with devastating physical and emotional impacts. In 2022, over 42,000 people died in preventable motor vehicle crashes with speeding, distraction, and alcohol impairment being leading driver behavior factors.

Furthermore, research indicates that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities often experience a disproportionate impact from road traffic crashes. This can be due to socioeconomic disparities, inadequate infrastructure in neighborhoods, and lack of access to quality healthcare.

We continue to face a national crisis of traffic deaths on our roadways, and everyone has a role in reversing the trends we continue to experience. Here are vital steps you can take to keep yourself, your family, and your communities safe on the road.

  • Buckle up! Every ride, Every time – It’s the easiest way to stay safe as a driver and passenger.
  • Experiencing road maintenance issues? Report it to your local officials.
  • Avoid distractions and impairment. Keep your mind on the road!
  • Follow the speed limit. The need for speed can wait!
